Interview: Erin Chambers

4 June 2009 One Comment

3Erin Chambers is an American born actress who has featured in a wide variety of projects. Just some of those include Without A Trace, CSI, Bones, CSI: NY and Veronica Mars. She is perhaps best known for playing Sora of The Genii in Stargate Atlantis.

(this interview was conducted over a year a go, so somethings will have happened during that time.)

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Well, I was born in Portland, Oregon and am the oldest of 4 girls. I am happily married (5 years!) and enjoy hiking, traveling, cooking, working out and goofing around with people I love.

What made you want to get into acting?
I grew up acting, dancing, singing and playing the piano. I basically felt the need to always be performing. When my dance teacher told me I would never be able to do point and further my ballet career (I think I was 10) I gave up dance to focus more on acting and singing. My mother I think noticed my abilities as a young kid–I started singing on pitch at age 2) and since then, she always pushed me (but not in a pushy stage mom way) to develop and use my performing skills. I really fell in love with acting when I did ‘The Music Man” in the 4th grade. By the time I graduated HS, I knew acting would be a huge part of my life.

One of your biggest roles, if not your biggest, is that of Sora of the Genii on Stargate: Atlantis. How did you come to audition for the show & get the part?
My manager and agents set up the audition for Atlantis. I auditioned and remember being asked about my stage combat/fighting skills. I talked about taking classes in college. A few days later, I was on a flight to Vancouver. preparing for my role as Sora! :)

soragrrrrjj7What was it like working on the show?
Working on the show was great. Everyone was nice and friendly–the crew and cast. Rachel was especially sweet. She went out of her way to make me feel at home.

What do you think happened to Sora after we last heard about her? Or what would have liked to have happened?
I’m not sure what Sora’s up to now. I would assume she’s probably somewhat of an outcast with her people. I imagine her as the “Han Solo” of the galaxy. She’s probably doing her own stuff and sort of a loner. But perhaps she’s found a good looking boyfriend to travel around with. :)

If you could play any other character on the show, who would you play and why? (can be a main character or minor)
If I could play any character, I would probably play Sora!

You have done voice overs for several different animated projects. How was it different to prepare for those rather than ‘onscreen’ roles?
Animated roles are fun b/c you get to go to work in your pajamas. It’s fun because the performance is all in your voice. It takes a different kind of energy. I love it–It was especially fun to work on Happy Feet as a cute little penguin.

You have appeared on several ‘major’ programs, CSI, Without A Trace, Bones, etc… Which has been your favourite?
My favorite role would have to be Laura Richards on Without a Trace. It was a huge part and I got to do all sorts of fun things–I shot a guy, set up bombs, dismantled bombs…My character was totally different from me and I enjoyed creating and finding her within myself. It was challenging, exhausting and fun!

l_46eb34ccefccfdd20041af3813292377If you could appear on any program, which would you appear on and why?
I would love to either be a cylon on Battlestar Galactica or Jack Bauer’s girlfriend on 24. I love those shows.

If you could be any scifi character in history, which would you be?
Any sci fi character in history? Hm. That’s hard. Maybe Sigourney Weaver’s role in Alien. Talk about kick butt. And who wouldn’t want to jump into fire as an alien life form was coming out of your stomach? :)

If you had a choice to put the Mona Lisa, blue poles or a canvas painted by an elephant in your lounge room, which one would you choose?
I’d say the canvas painted by the elephant–because 1) I’ve seen the Mona Lisa and it’s quite boring and small. 2) I already have blue poles that I ski with and 3) I think elephants are awesome. :)

I love her, but what is she wearing, (or not wearing?!!) I know when she played Sis. Taylor in Errand of Angels she was just playing a part, but still… I thought that she was LDS??? :( I’m sorry, but I just really loved her in both Errand of Angels and Singles Ward 2, so I am just really, really surprised and disappointed by the picture. :(
