Miranda Frigon is getting her Frig-On

5Miranda Frigon is not only recognized for her successful film and television career but she’s also an amazing singer-songwriter to boot. You can catch her on shows such as Dexter, Ugly Betty, The New Adventures of Old Christine and Syfy’s Sanctuary, but be sure to try and make it out to one of her music shows, because it’s definitely something to see. She was recently chosen to sing the National Anthem at the Entertainment Industry’s Revlon Run for the Cure for cancer at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum. Gracing the stage with Christina Applegate, Miley Cyrus and Carrie Ann Inaba, Miranda sang the anthem to an audience of 60,000 cancer survivors and supporters and kicked off the run with her original songs. Go figure, a Canadian singing the American National anthem.  We interviewed Miranda recently to get the low down on what she’s about.

So what’s the Frig-on scoop, are you an actress or singer?

Well the truth is, I’m completely dedicated and in love with them both.  I started acting at a very young age and haven’t stopped since, so acting has always been my main squeeze. Been playing and writing music since I was little but never really took it too seriously until about 10yrs ago. Acting will always be my first love but the wonderful thing about music is that no one can control when I can write a song or play music.  It’s a creative outlet that is always there waiting for me whenever I want it. And I am always able to channel anything I’m feeling into my music so it’s also free therapy!

Do your acting and music ever conflict?

There have been times where I have felt overwhelmed when both my music and my acting have called for all of my attention at the same time. Over the years I’ve really had to learn how to manage my time with each of them. It’s all about focusing on the right thing in the right moment and always being grateful to have them both in my life.

What was your favorite t.v. show or movie to work on?

ugly bettyEvery experience I’ve had has been so unique and interesting, I don’t know if I can pick!!  I loved working on The New Adventures of Old Christine. It was the first sit-com I’ve ever done so I really loved being in front of a live studio audience and was pretty excited to work with Andy Ackerman who directed all the Seinfeld episodes.  Plus I was laughing the whole time I was on the show because everyone was so funny. Sanctuary was awesome because the writer and director and the whole cast and crew were some of the coolest people on the planet.  I still hang out with some of them. Ugly Betty was an amazing experience too, the cast and crew were so fun and welcoming and Fat Carol was one of my most favorite characters to play.

As a Canadian, how did you feel about being asked to sing the American National Anthem?

Being chosen to perform the anthem was such an incredible honor, especially being in the company of such well respected artists.  I had to of course learn the song first!  I was so nervous that I was going to forget the words, how embarrassing would that have been! It was also exciting to be sponsored and outfitted for my performance by my all time favorite clothing line ADIDAS.  I’m obsessed with their clothing, so when I find out they were letting me pick out anything I wanted, I was pretty darn stoked.

Do you hope to leave your mark as an artist or philanthropist?shelley interview resized

Of course I want to be respected for my art and my passion and what I’ve worked so hard to achieve. But the beautiful thing about being recognized for your art is that people respect and listen to what you have to say.  Being an established artist is what allows me to have a voice in the world and be a part of something much bigger. That’s the true magic of fame, and that’s why I’m here.

What has your experience been living in the U.S. so far?

I love it. I’m so grateful to be here and to have access to the opportunities that I wouldn’t have in Canada. Living here has inspired me and not only opened my eyes to new possibilities as an artist but also opened my eyes to the opportunities I have to make a difference in other people’s lives.

What projects do you have coming up?

I have a feature film coming up that I’ll be shooting in Idaho called Soda Springs directed by Mike Feifer and I’ll be co-starring with Jay Pickett (General Hospital), Michael Bowen (Kill Bill, Jackie Brown, Lost), academy award winner Patty McCormick (Frost Nixon) and Victoria Pratt (Mutant X, Zena, Daybreak)  And I’m currently on hold for the latest Robert Downey Jr. film Due Date directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover, Old School, Road Trip) so I’m very excited about that.  I also recently wrote a song for the t.v. series Heroes and the people from Grey’s Anatomy are considering  a few of my songs for placement on the show.
